TrafficApp manages contractors applying to close the right of way, be they mending pipes, laying cables, improving road surfaces, or building temporary structures. With TrafficApp, the local authority has a complete, live view of all activity at all times, encouraging efficiencies among contractors – so ideally a road is dug up once on behalf of three contactors, rather than dug up three times.
The TrafficApp calendar can be integrated into FilmApp and EventApp’s, avoiding clashes. If a road closure has been booked for filming or a street party, nobody will find it being dug up by a contractor when they arrive.
TrafficApp was developed initially on behalf of the City of Atlanta. After implementing FilmApp, the City sought to apply similar efficiencies to the Public Works Department. Now TrafficApp is available to all cities and local authorities.
TrafficApp allows all contractors, and the authority’s team, to communicate and manage permits through mobile devices. It prompts contractors through their application, handles all the supporting documents, consults relevant stakeholders, takes payment online, and issues the permit at the press of a button.
All the documentation is kept in one place. And, if a contractor seeks a closure on a different right of way, they can apply through their existing profile – without having to fill out their details all over again. Once payment is received, a permit can be issued including a barcode and serial number, along with a photo and identity details.
Reports can be generated, activity monitored, and records maintained, all automatically. Public Works officers can access up to date information, from mobile devices, to help them check the validity of permits, including safety and police requirements if need be.
Contractors can log in any time to check their status, extend a permit and pay for the extra time, view or upload supporting documents or request a change to their details.
City of Atlanta – It works for us: Freeing the team to get back on the streets
Ramon Creese, Senior Information Technology Manager, for the City of Atlanta’s Department of Public Works, says, “Now my guys can work on their mobiles wherever they need to be to stay on top of their workload – they don’t have to be stuck in the office to process applications.
“The time reduction and efficiency is remarkable. We’re managing more than 20 permits a week, with a team of 12 people. We can see live at any time which areas will be affected by contractors’ applications, and for how long.
“As an IT specialist, I appreciate the cloud-based platform for the flexibility and automatic upgrades it provides.
“We’ve integrated our calendar with the FilmApp team’s – so we all know ahead of time if a street is being dug up – and can let filmmakers know to avoid those dates.”
